Building a society free from prejudice, injustice, and inequality

I've been reflecting a lot about the recent events in our country and the violence and loss of life that have precipitated protests across the nation.
In the mid 1960s I was in junior high school. I watched as the country expanded its view of social injustice. With the passing of the Civil Rights Act, we took a large step forward in making this a place where everyone is included. I wanted to make this video today because I want to be very clear that we as a company are firmly in support of people that suffer injustice like we have seen this week. I am reminded that despite how far we believe we have come, we still have further to go.
I also want to provide validation to the voices and messages of our African-American colleagues. What you say and feel matters to me and our company. I believe during this time all of us must challenge ourselves to seek understanding and do things with as much empathy as possible. I am frustrated that we have yet to achieve the society that we all want - free from prejudice, injustice and inequity.
This year you saw Leidos launch "Inclusion" as one of our core values. And I want to reiterate to you today that I am fully committed to this. Not just to adding a word to a list of words, but to playing a real and tangible role in creating the future that we all aspire towards.
My commitment to you is that this will not fall to the side in the days ahead. I will do all that I can to lead with empathy and action and carry us forward from this moment.
