Hawaii Energy program recognized with ENERGY STAR® Award
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized the Hawaii Energy program with a 2019 ENERGY STAR® Excellence in Promotion Award for its outstanding achievement in planning and executing successful promotional and educational campaigns around ENERGY STAR. ENERGY STAR is an EPA initiative that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect the environment by encouraging the installation of energy-efficient products. Leidos, who manages the Hawaii Energy program, was recognized for their accomplishments at a ceremony in Washington, D.C. on April 11.
Hawaii Energy’s campaign featured several innovative components:
- A specialized program that provided customers on the volcano-impacted Hawaii Island with new and increased rebates on ENERGY STAR certified products
- A sponsored, locally written and produced musical called "SHOCKA: The Story of Energy in Hawaii," which aims to teach children about energy usage and its history in Hawaii
- Promotion of the annual ENERGY STAR day across local television and social media
- Promotion of the ENERGY STAR partnership and the incentives for certified products available to commercial and residential customers
In 2015, Hawaii broke new ground by becoming the first state to establish a 100 percent clean energy mandate to meet electricity needs by 2045. Through the promotion of energy-efficient upgrades and certified equipment, Hawaii Energy, Leidos and the ENERGY STAR program are playing a key role in shaping the state’s clean energy future.
