Honoring veterans through our actions
Heroes of Leidos is our annual Veterans Day campaign designed to give a voice to men and women in our company who wore the uniform. Our 2017 campaign began this week, and I’d like to tell you about one of this year’s featured veterans.
Ed M. has worked for Leidos since 1992. Ed is a consulting employee in our Advanced Solutions Group and based in Beaver Creek, Ohio. For 44 years, from 1960 to 2004, he served in the United States Air Force, the Air National Guard, and the Air Force Reserve. He was deployed in Europe, Vietnam, and the continental United States as a fighter pilot and senior staff officer at Air Force Materiel Command.
Ed was a prisoner of war for six years in North Vietnam. He said his proudest moment as a veteran was when he returned to Vietnam in 2004 to repatriate the remains of fellow airmen killed in action. He wants others to know veterans are proud to put their lives on the line for what they believe in.
On Veterans Day, we should do more than sing the praises of veterans like Ed. We should demonstrate how we value them through our actions. I’m proud of what this company is doing, and we’re committed to doing more through Operation MVP, our companywide initiative to hire, train, and support veterans in the workforce. Our Military Alliance Group offers a platform for veteran employees to collaborate and better understand the benefits available to them. We also support nonprofit groups for veterans, including USO, Wreaths Across America, Paralyzed Veterans of America, Special Operations Warrior Foundation, Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS), and others.
Let’s continue to honor our veterans through our actions. On Veterans Day, please join me in sharing our gratitude with veterans and their families. To all those who honorably served, thank you.
