Leidos San Antonio supports local food bank
The emails that started circulating among the Leidos San Antonio community a couple weeks ago had a common theme: how do we help those in need during the COVID-19 pandemic? Several ideas were floated, but a recent news story about the number of families in the area that were depending on the local food bank really hit home.
The San Antonio Food Bank recently made national news when a food distribution event drew 10,000 local families seeking food. According to the San Antonio Food Bank, prior to the pandemic they served about 60,000 people each week. That number has now doubled to 120,000 and it includes a significant number of first-timers who have never had to seek food assistance.
Team Leidos got organized to help our community by initiating a virtual fundraiser. A simple email inviting the more than 800 local Leidos employees, including those representing the Defense Group, QTC, and Dynetics, to raise funds for the San Antonio Food Bank was met with enthusiasm to help and compassion for those in need.
Kyle Kennedy, a Senior Solutions Architect in the Enterprise & Cyber Solutions operation within the Defense Group, was passionate about helping, stating “Leidos, unbeknownst to many, has a large population in San Antonio, which is one of those cities where everyone looks out for each other. It’s great to see the Leidos ‘how can I help?’ spirit join with our San Antonio ‘mi familia’ spirit.”
This spirit extends across all Leidos organizations in the area. Larry Schaefer, QTC’s Chief Operating Officer, remarked, “The QTC San Antonio team was eager to help our fellow Leidos employees in the area with the initiative to raise money for the San Antonio Food Bank. Many of our staff know families in need in our local communities, and the food bank is a great resource to assist them. We are very honored to be part of this important endeavor to make a difference for others.”
So far, Team Leidos San Antonio has raised more than $4,200 in a little over 48 hours. The fundraising event continues through May 8, and we welcome donations from our Leidos team across the globe. Click here if you would like to join the support of the San Antonio Food Bank.
