Why certified product lists are important to energy efficiency projects
When a business or organization with hundreds or even thousands of locations seeks to upgrade old equipment with more energy-efficient models in their facilities, it can often be overwhelming to navigate all of the available product options and specifications. Additionally, companies want to maximize utility incentives for their projects to offset upfront costs and reduce the overall payback period. It can be a significant challenge to ensure that the new energy-efficient equipment meets product eligibility requirements for incentive programs, especially when those programs differ greatly between utilities and across state lines.
To help overcome this challenge and maximize incentive payouts, Leidos has developed the AMPLIFY™ incentive capture management tool. AMPLIFY integrates several databases of qualified products – including ENERGY STAR®, Design Lights Consortium (DLC), the Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI), and the Food Service Technology Center (FSTC) – to help companies determine the most cost-effective, eligible equipment to install in their facilities. In just a few minutes, a business or organization will receive customized product recommendations that meet strict energy efficiency standards and leverage all available utility incentives – no matter where the facility is located.
Recently, a big box retailer was looking to upgrade their existing fluorescent lighting to high-efficiency LED lighting in their stores across the country. Using the AMPLIFY tool, Leidos ran a fluorescent-to-LED rebate analysis across the retailer’s entire footprint. The analysis showed that the LED lighting products the company had planned to purchase were non-certified and would result in a 90 percent reduction in incentive payouts. As a result of the AMPLIFY analysis, the retailer switched to certified LED products, secured all of the available incentives, and substantially reduced their project payback period.
By using the AMPLIFY platform, companies can avoid costly mistakes such as installing products that do not maximize energy savings or purchasing equipment that does not take full advantage of incentive funding. Better yet, the tool reduces the amount of research needed to confirm product eligibility and the amount of paperwork required to access utility incentive funds.
