Data Center and Network Modernization

Whether FITARA or similar mandates are the drivers or not, federal agencies and other organizations are looking to rightsize their data center and network footprints in order to reduce costs, improve cybersecurity, and simplify the management of cloud, network, and application infrastructure.

Leidos has supported rightsize initiatives both CONUS and OCONUS and in both classified and unclassified environments.

DATA CENTER CONSOLIDATION

Leidos helps customers consolidate data centers through a combination of moving elements to the cloud, relocating physical hardware, transitioning software to a managed data center environment, and sun setting elements when necessary. All the while, we ensure that cloud, network, and application infrastructure is intact and secure.

NETWORK OPTIMIZATION & SCALING

Leveraging software defined networking (SDN), Leidos helps customers manage and optimize their networks by understanding bandwidth needs, different classes of users, the types and priorities of traffic on the network, and ultimately how to push critical traffic through and throttle less critical traffic back to ensure the mission is getting done. At the end of the day, we understand the full stack of IT and help bridge the gap between network, application, and cybersecurity stakeholders.

HYBRID CLOUD ENABLEMENT

Starting with an understanding of the system ecosystem, the Leidos team maps out networked locations, bandwidth usage, latency impacts, and number of network hops, and then ensures network pieces are passing through core security. This simplification reduces costs and improves the user experience.

Mobility

Because we are becoming a more distributed workforce, mobility is essential for secure, always-on connectivity.

There are a number of mobile devices in the government and commercial ecosystems, and no matter what device is selected, it's important to provide users with optimal mobile infrastructure, device management and delivery, and quite importantly security.

Click on the buttons below to see a few ways we are re-imagining mobility:

MOBILE INFRASTRUCTURE

Leidos helps the enterprise know where its mobile devices are, how are they connecting to the enterprise, and what type of work is being done with them. Not only does this bolster security, it also helps automate notifications based on geographic location.

MOBILE DEVICE MANAGEMENT AND DELIVERY

No matter the device or carrier, we make mobility turnkey and cost-effective. We help manage fulfillment, upgrades, ongoing usage, optimization of carrier engagement, and billing so that users can focus on their tasks at hand.

MOBILE SECURITY

As a recognized leader in cybersecurity, we excel at visibility, management, and monitoring of mobile devices. We utilize encryption, authentication and other means to optimize mobile usage and prevent data loss.

User Engagement

Missions are accomplished by people, not IT. That's why it's important to understand users first, and then engage with them based on their preferences.

At Leidos, we take a user-centric approach to enterprise IT infrastructure, IT service management (ITSM), and IT roadmapping.

MULTI-CHANNEL ENGAGEMENT

Enabling user-centric options for support based on different comfort levels of data consumption including FAQs for self-help, video demonstrations, click-to-chat, phone support, text/social media support, walk-up, and live technical demonstrations.

'NO FORM' SUPPORT

IT service providers have quite a bit of data about users based on their user IDs, including past trouble tickets and resolutions. Therefore, a service request form is no longer required in order to describe the issue and receive support, which saves the user precious time.

AUTOMATION AND RE-USE

We leverage data from across our programs to improve our ability to solve problems before a user has to call the help desk, or to provide a resolution to support requests quickly.

SUPPORT MATCH

We work to solve user's problems the first time we engage with them based on user credentials and the nature of the problem/request. This enables us to assign Tier 1, 2, or 3 support automatically.

Application Modernization

It's very rare that applications start with a blank sheet of paper.

At Leidos, we see organizations start with a system that has 60-80% of capabilities they like, who then leverage the existing code to add capabilities or develop a new user interface or both. Not only do these incremental upgrades reduce defects, but they also help deliver capabilities faster and more cost effectively.

APP MODERNIZATION

Leidos employs expertise from our software development technical core competency and the Strangler Methodology to analyze the system at hand, break it into chunks, ensure interfaces are well-defined, write code for load balancers between old and new systems, and little by little strangle out the old pieces of the system while adding new capabilities within the same system. This method eliminates waste from parallel processes and provides agility in modernization efforts.

USER-CENTERED DESIGN

While others touch on user-centered design in the development phase, we focus on it starting with the system engineering phase. Our goal is to truly understand how users are going to interact with a system, how to make it more intuitive for them, how to build in validations so processes aren’t repeated, and how to maximize time spent on doing the job that supports the mission.

APP RE-PLATFORMING

We are helping organizations migrate applications between platforms where it makes sense for them. This includes mainframe to the cloud, COBOL to the cloud, and UNIX to the cloud.

Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has long surpassed its infancy, and no one is starting with a greenfield solution anymore.

More often, hybrid cloud solutions are deployed based on an assessment of platforms and applications needed, rationalization of what should go into the cloud and when, and specific configuration and monitoring schemas, including the use of managed services.

Leidos has completed more than 1,000 public and private migrations. Click on the buttons below to see a few ways we are re-imagining cloud computing:

CLOUD MIGRATION

The Leidos team leverages its system of systems understanding to help organizations determine which platforms or applications should migrate into the cloud now, and which should be part of a roadmap. Once a determination is made, we help procure, secure, and connect cloud services to the organization’s network, with automation that eliminates shadow IT from third party cloud providers.

DEVELOPING FOR THE CLOUD

We consider it our job to enable your organization’s developers to focus on delivering mission and business value. That’s why we pre-build and automate application design or modernization upfront.

SECURE CLOUD INTEGRATION

With one of the first cloud solutions stood up through FedRAMP, we understand where security gaps may arise, how to fill those in, and how to maintain visibility to ensure data accountability even when the data is off-premise.

CLOUD CONNECTIVITY

When any cloud solution is employed, you need to understand all of the traffic going in and out of the cloud and build security upfront in the network. We have vast past performance in doing just this for civilian, defense and commercial customers.

DevOps

At Leidos, we leverage our core competencies in enterprise IT modernization and software development to integrate IT with DevOps delivery.

We are helping customers move away from system administration with manual or hidden scripts to a more structured method of development called Infrastructure as Code.

This practice helps us deliver infrastructure from development to production rapidly and efficiently – through automation that deploys changes, defect repairs or enhancements, and contains planned evolution to meet dynamic needs as they arise.

Click on the buttons below to see a few ways we are re-imagining DevOps:

INFRASTRUCTURE AUTOMATION

Automation begins with defining infrastructure, servers, network devices, and software and then managing it just as you would with custom software – with a developer pipeline and a development environment. In doing so, we create standard baselines that are repeatable, secure and lend themselves to automation which allow customers to do more with less resources.

KANBAN AND AGILE ADMINISTRATION

Business agility depends on fast-paced, responsive IT changes. Kanban is an Agile methodology that, in conjunction with DevOps-enabled continuous delivery, speeds up the flow and removes wait states, blockers, and barriers from user requests to deployed capability. It also improves transparency so that the organization can see, in near real-time, the status of any request in the flow.

Digital Workplace

More and more, we are becoming a distributed workforce. At Leidos we understand that employees need IT in order to be productive anytime, anywhere – which includes the right functionalities to collaborate as effectively as a team would in an office environment.

And of course, security is paramount as IT endpoints are vulnerable to exposure for the entire enterprise.

Click on the buttons below to see a few ways we are re-imagining the digital workplace, or the office of the future:

TELECOMMUTING

Virtual teleconferencing has come a long way since its inception, and we have identified user-friendly, cost-effective, and privacy-enabled solutions for remote workers.

COLLABORATION OPTIONS

We understand the different requirements and expected outcomes of a huddle space verses a conference room, and optimize collaboration tools — such as Office 365, Google Docs, and Slack, with the physical workspace accordingly.

VOICE COMMANDS

Leveraging tools such as Amazon Echo, we design low-touch methods to set up conference rooms for laptop projection or Skype meetings automatically.

IoT INTEGRATION

Hoteling space for telecommuters is a reality in the office of the future. We utilize IoT, including lighting, glass frosting, and vibration prevention to reconfigure office spaces based on user preferences and privacy requirements.
