Next Generation Identification

State-of-the-art biometric identification system to keep Americans and their families safe.
NGI affects all FBI criminal history programs, including the National Crime Information Center (NCIC) and the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS). With the Interstate Photo System, part of NGI, the FBI has improved image-searching capability of photographs associated with criminal history. The system supports better facial recognition and identification of scars, marks and tattoos.
NGI introduced multiple features including the Repository for Individuals of Special Concerns (RISC) and Rap Back. Rap Back allows authorized users access to notifications of any criminal activity reported on individuals holding positions of public trust. In addition, Rap Back alerts criminal justice entities such as probation and parole officers of new criminal activity of people currently under investigation or supervision. The RISC capability supports rapid - under 10 seconds - mobile identification against a population which currently includes: wanted persons, sexual offenders, and known or appropriately suspected terrorists.
Leidos also designed, developed, and deployed the FBI’s previous system, Automated Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) — the fingerprint matching component of the Integrated Automated Fingerprint Identification System (IAFIS).
