Ted Tanner

Theodore (Ted) Tanner Jr. is the chief technology officer at Leidos. He is responsible for shaping the Leidos technology strategy and accelerating the company’s innovation and mission impact. His leadership focuses on deploying trusted, mission-ready technologies—particularly AI, software, cyber, and quantum—to solve our customers’ most complex challenges.

Before joining Leidos in January 2026, Tanner served as chief technology and strategy officer at BigBear.ai, leading advanced AI capabilities supporting the U.S. Department of War, the Intelligence Community, and civilian agencies. Prior to that, he was CTO and chief architect at IBM Watson Health, setting technology and platform direction for AI-driven solutions across genomics, pharmacology, oncology, imaging, and payer and provider systems.

Earlier in his career, Tanner held leadership and architect roles at Microsoft and Apple. He co-founded multiple Silicon Valley startups that were successfully acquired, including PokitDok, a healthcare interoperability platform acquired by Change Healthcare, and BeliefNetworks, one of the first machine learning and natural language processing (NLP) as-a-service companies on AWS.

Tanner is a published author who holds 18 U.S. patents spanning blockchain, semantics, machine learning, signal processing, and signal protection.
