Leidos-Led Team Celebrates Major NATO Milestone with Launch of IT Modernization Program
The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) took a significant step toward creating a stronger, more secure digital future with the signing of a landmark agreement between Leidos and the NATO Communications and Information Agency (NCIA) at NATO Headquarters on June 10 in Brussels, Belgium. The ceremony marked the official launch of a bold new initiative to modernize NATO’s technology systems through a shared vision for a scalable, secure, and unified cloud infrastructure. NATO officials will possess the essential digital assets they need to operate with agility and efficiency while addressing challenges in an increasingly complex global landscape.
The $87 million (€79.1 million) award to the Leidos team followed a highly competitive selection process and signifies a win for innovation. The transformative program will streamline NATO’s digital infrastructure, enhance cybersecurity, and strengthen NATO’s operational network, all of which will facilitate quicker, more informed decision-making across the Alliance.
“This contract is a cornerstone of our IT modernization efforts and demonstrates the strength of NATO’s industry partnerships, which are essential to ensuring our digital infrastructure remains resilient and future-ready,” said Ludwig Decamps, General Manager of NCIA.
The Leidos team includes industry-leading global partners Thales (France), CGI (Germany), Leonardo (Italy), LA International (U.K.), and NEXOR (U.K.), bringing together extensive experience and expertise along with a strong commitment to enhance NATO’s operational capabilities through digital innovation. Together, the partners will support NATO’s mission and advancing secure cloud modernization.
NATO’s modern, private, cloud system will replace outdated technology with a more flexible, reliable, and secure platform built specifically for the Alliance’s unique mission needs. The Secret cloud will enable NATO teams to share classified information and collaborate safely across borders, reinforcing the Alliance’s ability to operate quickly and confidently in high-stakes situations.
“This project reflects our long-standing commitment to NATO, leveraging innovative solutions aimed at delivering secure, mission-ready capabilities designed to adapt with operational needs,” said Steve Hull, president of Leidos’ Digital Modernization Sector. “It also creates new opportunities for more integrated collaboration across transatlantic defense networks, helping NATO teams stay securely connected and able to share critical information with greater speed, agility, and assurance.”
The IT modernization program reflects NATO’s growing momentum in digital modernization and reaffirms the vital role of public-private collaboration in shaping a secure, connected future.
