Substation Design and Engineering
Drawing from our expertise in both civil and electrical engineering, our efficient substation design approach saves our clients both time and money. Leidos’ experienced team provides utilities with full lifecycle engineering and design solutions for substation projects, whether a new facility or modifying an existing asset.
Distribution Line Design
Leidos has provided distribution line design services to the utility industry for more than 70 years. Our reliable team of experts can serve as an extension of utility staff—with services ranging from project scoping and definition to detailed design of distribution facilities, and including the inspection, evaluation, and construction monitoring of both new and upgraded lines.
Transmission Line Design
According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, there has been a five-fold increase in new electricity transmission investment since the late ‘90s, and that trend continues upward. Leidos has significant experience designing transmission projects from 46 kV through 500 kV. We are recognized as an industry leader in power design and engineering, with a portfolio representing some of the largest transmission projects in the United States.
SCADA and Communications
Leidos has extensive experience in the consulting, project management, engineering, design, procurement, construction management, and commissioning of supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems for electrical investor-owned and municipal transmission, distribution, and generation utilities and industrial customers.
System Planning & Protection
Leidos applies our in-depth knowledge and experience with equipment in generation, transmission, substations, and distribution to help our clients design and implement protection and controls schemes for more reliable systems. We assist our clients in understanding the variables in developing protection system designs and relay settings within the constraints of their systems.
Leidos offers sophisticated technical expertise combined with proven experience in implementing, reviewing, and improving North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) reliability compliance programs and procedures for clients nationwide. Our expertise encompasses a full slate of capabilities, services, and knowledge to support a complete range of NERC-related requirements. Maintaining compliance requires a realistic balance between a utility’s operations, planning, and oversight/business-related functions. Our streamlined, coordinated compliance management approach helps a utility put in place the policies and practices that address NERC compliance while still maintaining operational efficiency.
