Meet a Leidos Summer Intern: George Kropp
Meet George Kropp who joined Leidos as a Flight Systems Aerospace Engineering Intern. With a passion for aviation and a sharp engineering mindset, he has been contributing to critical projects while bringing enthusiasm, precision and a fresh perspective.
Check out what George has to say about his summer internship experience so far.
Where do you go to school, what are you majoring in and when do you graduate?
I go to Purdue University, majoring in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering. I will graduate in December 2025.
You're a Leidos summer intern. Are you doing this in person, hybrid or virtually?
I am working in person in Huntsville, Alabama.
Tell us about your internship experience so far.
I have enjoyed my internship experience so far. I've had the pleasure of working with amazing fellow interns and co-workers. I work with the Flight Vehicle Modeling and Simulation Branch in the Missile and Aviation Solutions Division. This summer, I have been studying the effects of target location error on the performance of the Small Glide Munition (SGM). I have accomplished this by developing scenarios to run through our 6-DoF (Degrees of Freedom) simulation for SGM, analyzing the results and reporting the results to managers.
What made you decide to apply for a Leidos internship?
I applied for a Leidos internship because I wanted to apply my skillset to the aerospace defense industry. The Missile and Aviation Solutions Division in Huntsville appealed to me as a way to expand my breadth of knowledge and technical skills as an aerospace engineer. Moreover, Leidos is a larger company than my previous internship, so I was excited to get the opportunity to be exposed to more projects and expand my network as I prepare to graduate college.
How will a Leidos internship help you meet your academic and career goals?
This Leidos internship has taught me many new technical skills, especially related to flight modelling and simulation that I will be able to apply to my design-build-fly senior design project at Purdue. Moreover, it has bolstered my resume, expanded my network and exposed me to many different roles and projects. As a result, I have gained more confidence and received advice about the path I want to take with my career. I have improved and developed new skills to help me achieve these career goals through my internship with Leidos.
Besides the internship, what else are you up to this summer?
Outside of my internship, I have enjoyed playing golf a couple times a week at new courses around Huntsville with co-workers and friends. I have also enjoyed going out to eat at some great restaurants in downtown Huntsville, hiking and attending local sporting events. I have also spent a few weekends in Atlanta visiting my family.
What is your favorite food?
Steak and mashed potatoes.
