Navy modernization platform deployed ahead of RIMPAC
Government-industry tech deployment modernizes fleet prep
Leidos recently completed a deployment of its Mission Edge (MME) solution, an initiative aimed at supporting broader Navy digital modernization efforts. Executed in preparation for the upcoming Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise, the technology installation is intended to deliver advanced operational capabilities to the fleet.
Maritime Mission Edge is a container-native platform designed to provide a standardized, enterprise-wide hosting environment for Navy systems – from cloud to the tactical edge. Built on a zero-trust architecture, the solution strengthens cybersecurity while reducing total cost of ownership across the fleet. It also streamlines software sustainment by offering alternatives to avoid relying on time-intensive manual installation processes aboard ships.
The deployment represents an effort to modernize afloat operational information technology while enhancing cyber resilience, software delivery, and operational readiness for deployed forces, according to DJ LeGoff, Senior Vice President and Navy & Marine Corps IT Business Area Leader at Leidos.
The Navy's ability to rapidly deploy, update and secure mission-critical software is essential to maintaining operational advantage in today's contested environment. Maritime Mission Edge provides a modern, resilient platform that brings commercial best practices to the fleet while enabling Sailors to focus on mission execution rather than technology administration.

The technology integration was conducted within the Combined Test Bed (CTB), a dynamic laboratory environment located at Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Pacific. Managed by NIWC Pacific's Command and Control (C2) Department, the CTB provides an infrastructure that supports the integration, testing, and certification of advanced tactical systems. The use of the CTB facility enables the objective evaluation of emerging industry technologies to assess their viability for transition into operational military environments.
The deployment at the CTB will support operational experimentation and evaluation during RIMPAC, the world's largest international maritime warfare exercise. Held biennially and administered by U.S. Pacific Fleet, RIMPAC brings together partner nations from across the Indo-Pacific to strengthen interoperability, readiness and collective security.
According to LeGoff, the installation reflects the growing importance of government-industry collaboration in accelerating capability delivery to the warfighter. "The installation of the Maritime Mission Edge solution was completed through a cooperative effort between Leidos and NIWC Pacific's C2 Department,” LeGoff said. “Working together in a test bed environment allows us to evaluate how advanced software delivery can support Navy modernization requirements and help move advanced technology from concept to operational use at the speed the mission demands."
For more than 85 years, NIWC Pacific has led the Navy's efforts to harness information technologies that enable warfighters to prevail across the spectrum of conflict. Through its strategic focus on innovation, speed, operational relevance and resilience, the organization continues to develop and deploy technologies that help maintain information dominance for the U.S. military and its allies.
As preparations continue for RIMPAC, the Maritime Mission Edge deployment serves as a tangible example of how modern software infrastructure, cyber resilience and government-industry partnerships are helping transform naval operations for the future fight.
